چکیده

Coal offers an abundant widely spread fossil energy resource. It is available at a quite stable price from many international suppliers and it will continue to play a significant role in new generating capacity, if security and diversity of supply remain fundamental. In this paper we point out the state of the art in the field of “Clean Coal Technologies” evidencing the perspectives of improvement and the critical elements. Both the emission control of NOx, SOx and Particle Matter and the advanced coal conversion pathways like USC, PFBC and IGCC are reviewed and analysed. At the end some elements concerning the perspectives of CO2 emission control strategies are outlined.

Technology innovations and experience curves for nitrogen oxides control technologies.

This paper reviews the regulatory history for nitrogen oxides (NOx) pollutant emissions from stationary sources, primarily in coal-fired power plants. Nitrogen dioxide (NO2) is one of the six criteria pollutants regulated by the 1970 Clean Air Act where National Ambient Air Quality Standards were established to protect public health and welfare. We use patent data to show that in the cases of J...

Reliability of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Systems for High Pollutant Removal Efficiencies on Coal Fired Utility Boilers

SCR and FGD are making a significant contribution to the control of NOx and SO2 emissions from coal-fired generating units. These technologies are expected to contribute to further reductions in pollutant emissions in response to proposed emission reduction rules. The ability of these technologies to make significant contributions to pollution reduction in a cost-effective manner depends, in pa...

Probabilistic Performance, Environmental, and Economic Evaluation of an Advanced Coal Gasification System

INTRODUCTION The acid rain provisions of the 1990 Clean Air Act Amendments (CAAA) provide new incentives for the development of power generation technology with low SO 2 emissions. Detailed evaluations of possible NO x and air toxics emission limits also are required by the CAAA in the next few years. Furthermore, reauthorization of other key environmental legislation, such as the Clean Water A...

Combustion system development in power generation is discussed ranging from the pre-environmental era in which the objectives were complete combustion with a minimum of excess air and the capability of scale up to increased boiler unit performances, through the environmental era (1970–), in which reduction of combustion generated pollution was gaining increasing importance, to the present and n...

Clean Hydrogen Energy and Electric Power Production with CO2 Capturing by Using Coal Gasification

Clean hydrogen is the major energy carrier for power production. The conversion of CO to CO2 and zero emission during hydrogen energy production causes high capital cost. It is a matter of prestige to optimize the process in order to make zero emission and cost effective production of clean hydrogen energy and electric power. In this era, coal gasification is th...
